The CLAVIS belt tensiometer from the UK is a handheld infrared belt tensiometer, which is one of the accurate and highly reliable series of belt tensiometers. It has a sonic sensing head and is suitable for belt tension detection.

In 1988, CLAVIS invented a new type of belt tension meter. No longer need to rely on the thumb to estimate belt tension. Suddenly, the previous force/displacement type tensiometer displayed clumsy, inaccurate, and difficult to use in many situations. CLAVIS tensiometer has become the standard for measuring belt tension in the automotive industry. This only requires CLAVIS to introduce equipment using the same principle to automatically set the belt on the high-speed car engine production line.

According to the different sensors equipped, Clavis belt tensiometers can be divided into two categories: optical belt tensiometers and acoustic belt tensiometers.

The acoustic sensor uses CLAVIS technology to detect belt vibration signals while minimizing environmental noise to a large extent. The 'jaws' of the sensor should be located above the center of the conveyor belt and placed in the middle of the conveyor belt span. Sensors are not allowed to come into contact with the belt as this will reduce the vibration signal of the belt. A series of sensors can be used to adapt to conveyor belts of different widths.

The optical sensor head uses an invisible infrared beam to detect the vibration of the belt. Provide a narrow angle orange LED light beam to guide the aiming of the sensor. When the sensor is perpendicular to the belt at a distance of 9.5 millimeters (3/8 inch) at the center of the span, a good signal can be seen on the belt.

Clavis Type 3
The Clavis Type 3 Optical Belt Meter is capable of measuring belt tension frequencies from 7Hz to 300Hz and is equipped with an optical head that has been optimized for better performance at low frequencies. This belt gauge is operated by a simple on/off key button.

CLAVIS TYPE4

The CLAVIS TYPE4 acoustic belt tension meter from the UK is suitable for measuring the tension of various types of power transmission belts, including toothed synchronous belts, multi wedge belts, and simple V-belts. The frequency measurement range is from 30Hz to 600Hz, covering most automotive applications.

The frequency measurement range of CLAVIS Type 4 optical sensor is 10Hz to 600Hz, and an optical sensor head is used. This instrument is very useful when measuring tension in multiple conveyor belts, some of which have lower vibration frequencies.

CLAVIS Type 5

The CLAVIS belt tension meter Type 5 is capable of measuring belt vibration frequencies between 10Hz and 600Hz. The belt tension meter has the function of operating at kilogram force (KgF) and hertz (Hz).

This belt tensiometer has the function of operating in Newton, pound, and Hertz units. Effective measurements can be made on multiple axes (three or more axes) by selecting different belt ranges.
