What are the common faults of gasoline automatic logging chainsaw
Date: 2025-08-01Read: 28
Gasoline automatic logging chainsaw (referred to as chainsaw) is a high-power, portable forestry and landscaping tool, but its structure is complex, the working environment is harsh, and it is prone to various malfunctions after long-term use. The following are common fault classifications, specific manifestations, causes, and solutions:
1、 Startup fault
1. The engine cannot start
Performance: No response when pulling the starting rope, or engine stalling after a brief run.
Reason:
Fuel issues: Deterioration of gasoline, incorrect mixing ratio of gasoline and engine oil (usually 25:1 to 50:1), and no fuel in the fuel tank.
Spark plug malfunction: severe carbon deposition, electrode gap too large or too small, high-voltage wire detachment.
Carburetor blockage: Long term lack of cleaning can cause oil circuit blockage or water ingress into the float chamber.
Air filter blockage: Excessive dust affects intake efficiency.
Startup rope stuck: The internal spring of the starter is broken or has poor return.
resolvent:
Check the fuel quality and re mix the fuel mixture to ensure there is fuel in the tank.
Clean or replace the spark plug, adjust the electrode gap to 0.5-0.7mm.
Clean the carburetor, adjust the idle screw and mixing ratio screw.
Clean or replace the air filter.
Check the starter spring and replace it if necessary.
2. Immediately turn off the engine after starting
Performance: The engine can start briefly but cannot run continuously.
Reason:
Improper idle adjustment of carburetor: The idle screw is too tight or too loose.
Fuel pipe leakage: Fuel pipe aging and cracking cause fuel supply interruption.
Poor cylinder sealing: worn piston rings or leaking cylinder gaskets.
resolvent:
Adjust the carburetor idle screw again to stabilize the engine idle speed.
Check and replace the leaking fuel pipe.
Replace the piston ring or cylinder gasket to restore cylinder pressure.
2、 Power output fault
1. Insufficient engine power
Performance: Low saw chain speed, decreased cutting efficiency, and even inability to cut.
Reason:
Air filter blockage: Insufficient intake leads to insufficient combustion.
Carbon deposition on muffler: Increased exhaust back pressure, affecting power output.
Fuel filter blockage: Poor fuel supply leads to a lean mixture.
Cylinder wear: The clearance between the piston ring and the cylinder is too large, resulting in a decrease in compression ratio.
resolvent:
Clean or replace the air filter.
Clean the carbon deposits on the muffler and replace it if necessary.
Replace the fuel filter to ensure smooth fuel supply.
Check the wear of the cylinder and overhaul the engine if necessary.
2. Engine overheating
Performance: The engine casing temperature is too high, even hot to the touch, which may be accompanied by a decrease in power.
Reason:
Cooling system malfunction: blocked heat sink or damaged fan (some chainsaws have active cooling fans).
Insufficient or deteriorated engine oil: Poor lubrication leads to frictional heat generation.
Incorrect mixture ratio: Insufficient oil leads to insufficient lubrication.
resolvent:
Clean the dust and debris on the heat sink.
Check the oil level and replenish or replace qualified oil.
Re mix the oil mixture to ensure the correct oil ratio.
3、 Chain saw operation related faults
1. The saw chain is not running smoothly
Performance: The saw chain jumps, gets stuck or makes abnormal noise on the guide plate.
Reason:
Wear of guide plate: deformation of guide plate groove or blockage of lubricating oil passage.
Improper tension of saw chain: too loose leads to chain jumping, while too tight increases friction.
Chain wheel wear: The wear of the chain wheel teeth leads to poor meshing with the saw chain.
Lubrication system malfunction: Damaged lubrication oil pump or blocked oil pipe.
resolvent:
Check the wear of the guide plate and replace it if necessary.
Adjust the tension of the saw chain to an appropriate range (usually able to lift the middle section of the saw chain by 1-2cm).
Replace the worn sprocket.
Clean the lubricating oil pump and oil pipe to ensure normal supply of lubricating oil.
2. Saw chain breakage
Performance: The saw chain suddenly breaks during the cutting process.
Reason:
Poor quality of saw chain: insufficient material strength or improper heat treatment.
Improper operation: Excessive force during cutting or saw chain getting stuck in hard objects.
Insufficient maintenance: The saw chain is worn and not replaced in a timely manner, or poor lubrication leads to overheating.
resolvent:
Replace the saw chain with a qualified one.
Standardize operations and avoid violent cutting.
Regularly check the wear of the saw chain, replace it in a timely manner, and strengthen lubrication.
4、 Fuel and lubrication system malfunction
1. Fuel leakage
Performance: There are traces of gasoline leakage around the fuel tank or oil pipe.
Reason:
Poor sealing of fuel tank: damaged fuel tank cap or aging sealing ring.
Aging and cracking of oil pipes: Long term use causes the oil pipes to become brittle.
Poor sealing of carburetor: Damaged carburetor gasket or loose screws.
resolvent:
Replace the fuel tank cap or sealing ring.
Replace the aging oil pipe.
Check the carburetor gasket and tighten the screws.
2. Insufficient lubricating oil
Performance: The wear of the saw chain and guide plate accelerates, and a piercing friction sound is emitted during cutting.
Reason:
Lubricating oil pump malfunction: worn pump body or broken spring.
Oil pipe blockage: Impurities in the lubricating oil block the oil pipe.
Improper selection of lubricating oil: Use lubricating oil with too high or too low viscosity.
resolvent:
Replace the lubricating oil pump or spring.
Clean the oil pipe and replace the lubricating oil filter.
Choose specialized lubricating oil suitable for chainsaws (usually two-stroke engine oil).
5、 Electrical system malfunction (some models)
1. Ignition system failure
Performance: The engine cannot start or runs unstably, and there is no spark from the spark plug.
Reason:
Damage to ignition coil: internal short circuit or open circuit.
High voltage line aging: insulation layer damage leads to leakage.
Demagnetization of flywheel magnet: affecting ignition energy.
resolvent:
Replace the ignition coil or high-voltage wire.
Check the strength of the flywheel magnet and replace the flywheel if necessary.
6、 Preventive maintenance recommendations
Regular maintenance: Clean the air filter and carburetor every 50 hours of use, and check the tension of the saw chain.
Standardized operation: Avoid prolonged use in damp, high temperature, or dusty environments.
Use qualified fuel and lubricating oil: Mix the oil according to the instructions and choose genuine lubricating oil.
Storage precautions: When not in use for a long time, empty the fuel tank and carburetor, and store them in a dry and ventilated place.
Safety inspection: Check whether the saw chain, guide plate, screws and other components are tightened before each use.
