What are the precautions for using the seed dehulling machine
Date: 2025-11-17Read: 4
Seed dehulling machine is a specialized equipment used to remove thorns or shells from seeds (such as rice, wheat, oats, etc.). Its use requires consideration of operational safety, equipment maintenance, and seed quality protection. The following are specific precautions:

1、 Preparation before operation

  1. Equipment inspection
    • structural integrityCheck whether the casing, transmission components (such as pulleys and chains), and de awning roller (or drum) of the de awning machine are intact, without cracks, looseness, or wear.
    • Safety protection deviceConfirm that safety devices such as protective covers, emergency stop buttons, and grounding wires are complete and functioning properly to avoid accidents during operation.
    • Power supply and wiringCheck whether the power supply voltage matches the equipment requirements (such as 380V or 220V), the circuit is not aged or damaged, the grounding is reliable, and prevent leakage or short circuit.
  2. Seed pretreatment
    • Clean seedsRemove impurities such as stones, straw, and iron filings from the seeds to prevent damage to the dehulling roller or blockage of the equipment.
    • Control moisture contentAdjust the moisture content according to the seed type (for example, the moisture content of rice seeds should be between 12% -14%). If it is too high, it can easily lead to awning failurecleanToo low may increase the breakage rate.
    • classified processingSeeds of different varieties or sizes should be separated and dehulled to avoid mixing treatment that may result in decreased efficiency or damage to the seeds.

2、 Standardized operation

  1. Parameter Settings
    • speed controlAdjust the speed of the dehulling roller according to the seed type and dehulling requirements (such as rice dehulling speed is usually 800-1200 revolutions per minute). If the speed is too high, it can damage the seed germ, while if it is too low, dehulling will not occurclean.
    • Gap adjustmentAdjust the gap between the deburring roller and the sieve (or baffle) to ensure that the thorns are effectively removed and the seed integrity rate meets the standard.
    • Feed quantity controlUniform feeding to avoid equipment blockage or uneven shedding caused by excessive feeding. It is recommended to use an automatic feeding device to improve stability.
  2. operation monitoring
    • Observe the shedding effectRegularly inspect the detached seeds to ensure a thorn removal rate of ≥ 95% and a seed breakage rate of ≤ 3%.
    • Monitoring temperature and vibrationIf the temperature of the equipment rises abnormally during operation (such as the motor temperature exceeding 70 ℃) or the vibration intensifies, it is necessary to immediately stop the machine for inspection to prevent component damage.
    • Listen for abnormal soundsIf there is abnormal noise such as metal friction sound or impact sound, it may be due to wear of the deburring roller or foreign objects getting stuck, and it needs to be checked in a timely manner.
  3. safety protection
    • Wear protective equipmentOperators need to wear dust masks, gloves, and goggles to prevent dust inhalation or seed fragments from splashing and injuring people.
    • Prohibit reaching into the machineIt is strictly prohibited to insert hands or tools into the feeding port or stripping chamber during equipment operation to avoid getting caught up and causing injury.
    • Keep children and unrelated personnel awayEnsure that there are no children or unrelated personnel in the operating area to prevent accidents caused by accidental contact with equipment.

3、 Post operation maintenance

  1. cleaning equipment
    • Remove residuesAfter shutdown, promptly clean the seed residue and thorns in the de awning chamber, screen, and discharge outlet to prevent equipment blockage or corrosion.
    • Wipe the outer shellWipe the equipment casing with a dry cloth to prevent rust caused by residual moisture.
  2. Component inspection and replacement
    • Wear of the shedding rollerRegularly check the surface wear of the deburring roller. If the wear is severe (such as flattened teeth), it should be replaced in a timely manner, otherwise it will affect the deburring effect.
    • Belt/chain tensionCheck the tightness of the transmission belt or chain. If it is too loose, it may slip, and if it is too tight, it will accelerate wear. It needs to be adjusted to the appropriate tension.
    • Bearing lubricationRegularly add lubricating grease (such as lithium based grease) to the bearings to reduce friction and extend their service life.
  3. Long term parking treatment
    • moisture-proof and rust-proofIf the equipment is not used for a long time, it should be cleaned and stored in a dry and ventilated place, and rust proof oil should be applied to the surface of metal parts.
    • Regular operationEvery 1-2 months, start the equipment and run it idle for 10 minutes to prevent components from getting stuck due to prolonged inactivity.

4、 Troubleshooting and Handling

  1. No shedding of lightclean
    • reasonLow rotational speed, excessive clearance, worn-out de awning roller, or high seed moisture content.
    • processAdjust the speed and clearance, replace worn parts, or pre dry the seeds.
  2. High seed breakage rate
    • reasonHigh speed, small gap, or uneven feeding.
    • processReduce the speed, increase the gap, and ensure uniform feeding.
  3. Equipment blockage
    • reasonExcessive feeding, excessive seed impurities, or poor discharge outlet.
    • processReduce the feeding amount, clean impurities, and check if the discharge port is blocked.
  4. Abnormal noise or vibration
    • reasonLoose shedding roller, damaged bearings, or worn transmission components.
    • processTighten the deburring roller, replace bearings or worn parts.
