How to use a mobile gasoline generator correctly
Date: 2025-12-30Read: 14
Mobile gasoline generators are widely used in outdoor operations, emergency power supply, household backup power supply and other scenarios due to their portability and flexibility. To ensure safe and efficient use and extend equipment lifespan, the following correct usage methods should be followed:

1、 Preparation before use

  1. environment check
    • Ventilation conditionsThe generator must be placed outdoors or in an open space with good ventilation, avoiding use in enclosed rooms, basements, or near doors and windows to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
    • Ground levelingChoose a dry, flat, hard surface and avoid using it on soft surfaces (such as sand or mud) or slopes to prevent the generator from tipping over or getting wet.
    • Stay away from flammable materialsKeep at least 1 meter around the generator free of flammable materials (such as hay, gasoline cans), and keep away from sources of fire, high-temperature objects, and corrosive substances.
  2. Fuel and oil inspection
    • fuel additive
      • Use clean, lead-free 92 # and above gasoline, and avoid using inferior or ethanol containing fuel (which can corrode carburetors).
      • Turn off the engine when adding fuel and wait for it to cool down before operating to prevent fuel splashing and causing a fire.
      • The fuel consumption should not exceed 90% of the fuel tank capacity, with reserved expansion space.
    • Oil inspection
      • Check the oil level (through the oil dipstick or observation window) to ensure it is between the upper and lower markings.
      • After use or long-term parking, it is necessary to replace the engine oil with a new one (SAE 10W-30 or 15W-40 Four Seasons General Purpose Engine Oil is recommended).
      • Regularly (every 50 hours or every quarter) change the engine oil and clean the oil filter screen.
  3. Equipment inspection
    • Visual inspectionConfirm that the generator casing is not damaged or cracked, the screws are not loose, and the cables are not aged or exposed.
    • air filterCheck if the filter is clean and clean or replace it if necessary (excessive dust can cause a decrease in engine power).
    • 火花塞Check the gap between spark plugs (usually 0.7-0.8mm), clean carbon deposits or replace aging spark plugs.
    • Load connectionEnsure that the output sockets, cables, and plugs are not damaged, and the grounding wire is reliably connected (three-phase generators must be strictly grounded).

2、 Startup and Running Operations

  1. Startup steps
    • Cold machine startup
      1. Turn on the fuel switch and pull the choke valve to the "closed" position (the chiller needs to start with rich fuel).
      2. Gently pull the starting rope several times (or press the electric start button) to exhaust the air inside the carburetor.
      3. Quickly pull the start rope (or press and hold the electric start button) until the engine ignites, then immediately push the choke back to the "open" position.
    • Hot engine start-upIf the engine has just been shut down, the choke can be directly placed in the "open" position to start.
    • Precautions
      • Keep away from the exhaust pipe during startup to prevent burns.
      • Start continuously no more than 5 times, with a 10 second interval between each start, to avoid overheating of the battery or starter motor.
  2. operation monitoring
    • load management
      • Gradually increase the load and avoid sudden connection of high-power appliances (such as air conditioning and welding machines).
      • Ensure that the total load does not exceed 80% of the rated power of the generator (such as a maximum load of 5kW generator ≤ 4kW), to prevent overload, flameout or damage to equipment.
    • Parameter observation
      • Voltage meter: Stable within ± 5% range of 220V (single-phase) or 380V (three-phase).
      • Frequency meter: Stable at 50Hz ± 0.5Hz.
      • Tachometer: Stabilize at rated speed (such as 3000rpm or 3600rpm).
      • Abnormal sound/vibration: Immediately stop the machine for inspection, which may be due to loose screws, worn bearings, or fuel supply issues.
    • Fuel replenishment
      • When refueling during operation, first turn off the load, wait for the engine to idle for 2-3 minutes, then turn off the engine, cool down, and then refuel.
      • To avoid fuel spillage, if accidentally spilled, wipe it clean and start the engine to run for a moment to allow the fuel to evaporate.

3、 Shutdown and maintenance

  1. Normal shutdown
    • Gradually unload the load and turn off all electrical equipment.
    • Let the engine idle for 2-3 minutes, turn off the fuel switch after it cools down, and then press the stop button or pull the shutdown rope.
    • When parked for a long time, empty the fuel tank and carburetor to prevent gum buildup.
  2. routine maintenance
    • cleanClean the dust and debris on the generator casing, heat sink, and air filter after each use.
    • fastenCheck and tighten all screws, bolts, and cable joints to prevent looseness that may cause poor contact or vibration.
    • anticorrosionApply rust proof oil on the surface of metal parts to prevent corrosion in humid environments.
    • storeStore the generator in a dry and ventilated room, avoiding direct sunlight and rain.
